In-N-Out

In-N-Out

In-N-Out is a family owned fastfood restaurant found actually all across the United States and has been in business for some 60 years now. This is the first time that I have actually eaten at one. The last time I was in Vegas another Volvo told me about In-N-Out but I never had a chance to drive in.

In-N-Out prides itself in the freshes food and 100% PURE beef. They make their french fries dialy and their milk shakes are amazing. Their food is without additives or preservatives and you can taste the difference.

I treated myself to one of their double burgers and it was GREAT!

The Wild Wild WEST

Buffalo Bill Home Town

So we went to the hometown of “Buffalo Bill”.  But who was this guy with the funny name and where did the name come from???  Hummm.  He was a buffalo hunter duhhh.  His real name was William Frederick Cody and he got his nickname after he took a contract to supply Kansas Pacific Railroad workers with buffalo meat. And supply he did with killing almost 5,000 Bisons or AKA Buffalo in only 8 months time.  So why is he not called Bison Bill?   Food for thought.  No punt intended.

So if you are in the area of North Platte, Nebraska you should stop by the Fort Cody Trading Post.  It is at the junction of I-80 and US 83 and BONUS, it is FREE.  AND it is visible from the interstate so you don’t have to travel out of you way.  It is Nebraska’s largest souvenir and western gift store.

You can see:

1.  Plastic Buffalos

2.  Large (gigantic, 30 ft tall) Buffalo Bill cutout

3.  Two headed cow (kinda gross)

4.   Wild wild west gifts

5.  Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show (in miniature :),)

6.  Wood Carving of an Native America (great listener)

7.  Jackalope, a real one not like the one I saw at the WALL DRUGSTORE of South Dakota (You can even buy a REAL skin, which I did)

8.  Much more . . .

The Big Red Barn

Posted by OurVolvo.com on Apr 5, 2010 in 1993 Volvo 940

The Sod House Museum is located at 300 S Lake Ave in Gothenburg, NE just off off I-80 at exit 211. It’s at the same exit that the original Pony Expess Station is at.

You can see the world’s largest plow in front of the museum. And even if the museum is closed you can still go and see the sod house and a few scuptures made out of bared-wire just behind the red barn.

The following pic is a sketch from the Buildings Entered Project:

Original Pony Express

Pony Express Station

This original Pony Express Station is located in Ehmen Park in Gothenburn, Nebraska .  It’s a pretty cool stop if you are traveling on I 80.

The history of Gothenburg dates back to the great westward expansion, when thousands of pioneers crossed through here on the Mormon and Oregon Trails. In 1860 and 1861 the town boasted a station for the Pony Express.

oilchange

After some 4,000 miles of this journey so far I stopped in for an oil change.  Don’t tell anybody (shhhh), but (well, i’m not sure if I should mention this) I, I, I, I went to A SATURN DEALER for an oil change.  I can’t believe I just said that.  But in all honestly they provided one of the best services.  They really treated me like royalty.  They even gave me a quick wash which was soooooo refreshing.  Volvo dealers better wake up and pay attention before I think of switching loyalties.   Hmmmm…

Sioux Falls 2010

Posted by OurVolvo.com on Mar 8, 2010 in 1993 Volvo 940

falls

So I’m on the way back to Nebraska from Minnesota and I think to myself, “self”.  I should take the time to go by Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  It’s only like an hour out of the way.  So I plug in the destination on my trusty TomTom GPS and off I go.  I arrive to Sioux Falls and I click on the Points of Interest (POI) near me and select that I want to go to the Sioux Falls Park.  So it brings me toward downtown, and this I am thinking is a good thing, and then I go a bit farther down some back streets.  I cross by a old depot station, a mission outreach building.  I feel as if  I’m in the not so good area of town and then I see a sign.  “Sioux Falls Park”.  Okay but I don’t see any falls.  I just see a fee picnic tables, a slide, and some swings.  I’m thinking to myself this can’t be the great Sioux Falls of South Dakota.  But for you fellow travelers, just a side note that their is a small park right next the the big one.  So don’t turn around.  Just keep going and you will see the Falls.  However it’s not recommended to see them in the winter as the falls are somewhat FROZEN.  Yea.  Oh well.  But at least I can say that I have been to the Falls.  And if you are expecting anything like the Niagara Falls, don’t get your hopes up.  But it is a must see.

The Big 250

Posted by OurVolvo.com on Mar 3, 2010 in 1993 Volvo 940

250

Today I turned the big 250.  250,000 miles that is.  Can you believe it?  I feel as young as I did the day I came off the assembly line.  Well I guess not that young, but as young as one can with so many miles.  And I’m still purring like a little kitten.  I am very fortunate because with these miles have gone many places.  I’ve been everywhere man.  I’ve been to California man.  Been to Mississippi, to Florida, to Washington, to Chicago.  I’ve been stuck in the great 2009 blizzard of South Dakota, seen the Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, the Space Needle and Vegas Baby just to mention a few.   I am looking forward to many more to come.
